Remember when you set your goals for 2021?  Fifty-two weeks feels like a luxurious amount of time with plenty of days to get everything done.  Winter turns to spring, and spring turns to summer. In summer, we take vacations, enjoy summer Fridays, get outside and recreate more.  Then we find ourselves heading into fall and the final months of the year and perhaps behind on our goals.

Which of the three scenarios do you find yourself?

GOALS ACHIEVED

o   You are ahead of the game and have already reached your goals for the year. Congratulations!  Now how will you stretch between now and the end of the year? Having significant momentum is something to take advantage of and keep moving forward!

 OFF THE TRACKS

o   You may find yourself woefully behind and aren’t going to reach your goals—you are too far off target, and achieving the goals you set at the beginning of the year is no longer possible.  Set a more immediate and achievable goal—what could you get done between now and the end of the year with hard work?  Make that your new goal, and get to work!

 STILL IN SIGHT

o   Many of us find ourselves either on target and or requiring a significant stretch to achieve our goals.  Will you need a change in strategy or tactics to move the needle further?  What help will you need from others in this final push?  Now is the time to align your plan and enlist the help of others.

Other ideas to finish the year strong:

Clean your office:  Your office is a mess, and the clutter on your desk is getting in your way physically and mentally.  Clear out the crap and declutter.  An organized environment improves focus and increases productivity.

Remove tolerations:  What is bothering you and getting in your way?  Do you have things on your to-do list that have been on there for a while?  Conversations you need to have but are avoiding? Re-evaluate them.  Do they still matter?  Can you delegate any of these items?  Or could you just eliminate them from your list?

Ask for help:  Who is an expert at what you need to learn or do between now and the end of the year?  Are there books you could read? Is there a course you could take?  Who could you call that is talented in the area you are struggling with?

Prioritize and make time:  If you devoted one hour per day to your most important goal you can create a lot of momentum and forward progress. Expert tip: The first hour of the day is devoted to your highest priority goal. Block out all distractions—put your phone on silent, shut your door, turn off notifications, close your email, and ask everyone to respect this time. If you do this consistently it will pay off in a huge way.

Success for 2021 is still in sight.  Make the next 90 days count.  Act NOW.  You’ve got this!
