The scale and speed of change in today’s marketplace is unprecedented – scary, even. We all know driving change through your organization is really tough, but the reality is that change is the new normal. As an organizational leader, you need to be an expert at leading and embedding change throughout your organization. Your professional future may even depend on it.

This is where things get fuzzy – what does great change actually look like? Well, it starts with your people. You need to enroll your people in executing a new strategic direction, transforming culture, or driving change – and that means creating an organizational movement.

While there are no shortcuts, there are tried and true accelerators. In this session, you’ll explore insights and practical methods to build your capabilities as a change leader and accelerate the desired change in your organization.

The world is moving at a breakneck pace and all executives need to make change a part of their job. Confronting innovation and disruption in the corporate world requires confidence, resilience, savvy and the ability to overcome fears. But how to do it? Learn from Beth Comstock, one of the most celebrated and admired female executives of our time. She was the first woman to ever hold the position of vice chair at General Electric and Fortune Magazine has named her one of the world’s most powerful women.

In her brand-new book due out September 18, Imagine It Forward: Courage, Creativity and the Power of Change, Comstock offers practical takeaways from more than two decades of experience as a leading innovator and changemaker. She spearheaded GE’s digital and clean-energy transformations, and challenged the company to spot trends, take smart risks and test new ideas more often. All attendees will receive a copy of Imagine It Forward with the purchase of an individual ticket or table.

TEDx Chicago: No Limits!

We love the idea of “No Limits” because it contains an intrinsic contradiction. It both inspires us to say — “Wow, there are no limits to what we can do differently to move forward, inspire positive change, innovate and evolve.” But it also forces us to question the reality that there are many issues in our society relating to a LACK of limits (e.g., how we treat each other, how obsessed we are with technology/social media, how we abuse food/alcohol/drugs).

This event is open to the public.

Expanding the 30 Percent: Women in Manufacturing

JenniferScanlon.png

The manufacturing industry has made tremendous strides in recruiting, retaining, and advancing women, however there is still a long way to go.  Today, women make up less than 30 percent of the manufacturing workforce and even less are in the C-suite of those companies.

Join us on June 12, as Jennifer Scanlon, President and CEO, USG Corporation, discusses why it's important for the next generation of women to "Do the Math" and use STEM as a way to expand their career choices.  She will also share how she navigated the manufacturing world and how she achieves a "big picture balance" when it comes to work and family.

At this program, we will also present The Club's Corporate Citizen of the Year award.

Women account for more than half of U.S. college students, but only 20 percent of degrees in fields such as computer science and engineering. For women who work in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), only 5 percent hold top leadership positions. Despite efforts in early-childhood education to attract more girls to STEM-related fields, the gender gap has not narrowed.

How a Chicago Entrepreneur Becomes a Billionaire Investor

How a Chicago Entrepreneur Becomes a Billionaire Investor

Sam Zell, Chairman of Equity Group Investments, is one of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs, and recently released a memoir, Am I Being Too Subtle?: Straight Talk from a Business Rebel. The book not only details five decades of deal making but also the compelling story of how his childhood and his Holocaust-surviving parents shaped his approach toward business and life.

Zell was instrumental in growing the industry of Real Estate Investment Trusts from about $7 billion to $1 trillion over the course of 25 years. The $39 billion sale of his Equity Office Properties to Blackstone Group was the second largest leveraged buyout ever, just before the nation’s real estate market collapsed. With success has also come failure, such as his 2007 investment in Tribune Company, which filed for bankruptcy a year later.

Sam Zell will talk about what he’s done right, where he has gone wrong, and what lessons he has learned in the process. Our conversation with him promises to be as candid as his book.
