You Are What You Think

“The real battle takes place between your ears.” Darren Hardy

I am a big fan of Darren Hardy, who is a success mentor to CEOs and high achievers.  His message this week on mindset resonated greatly with me and inspired me to share it.  He told several stories about people who changed their lives by changing the way they think.

One story was about a woman who was very sick and had seen many doctors and tried many therapies, but nothing was working for her.  She decided to try a new doctor to see what could be done.  The first thing the doctor noticed was that she had a very negative attitude and everything that was suggested to her was quickly shot down.  This wise doctor made a decision to do something very different than had done before.  Before the doctor would make any diagnosis or prescribe any medication the woman was prescribed a mindful therapy.  Each day she was to repeat the following phrase six times, every hour: “I’m getting stronger every day in every way.”  She reluctantly agreed and left his office.  She was at the end of her rope and was willing to try anything, so she did it.  Every day she repeated the phrase each waking hour six times.  At the end of the first week, she found she WAS feeling better and she just kept getting better and better.  After a month of her “mantra therapy” she was an entirely new person—feeling healthy, strong, and able to re-engage and achieve new success in her life.

“Begin with the end in mind.” Stephen Covey

What if you applied this same “mantra therapy” to your life in the areas you would like to see improvement in?  Here are some ideas:

  • Objective: Improve business results
  • Mantra: “Grow the business to positively impact 10,000 business leaders to lead positively and productively.”
  • Objective: Improve health
  • Mantra: “I am the healthiest and fittest as I can be and feel great every day.”
  • Objective: Find a new job
  • Mantra: “I love my new job--It’s even better than I dreamed of.”

Try It

State your objective, begin with the end in mind, and create your mantra.  Repeat the mantra 6x/hourly per day and see what happens for you. Harness the power of your mind to get what you want in your life.  I’m cheering for you all the way and would love to hear what happens for you.
